Ghana 2008

In 2008, I had the opportunity to join a surgical team from Boston Children’s Hospital on a 10-day medical mission to Ghana, on the west coast of North Africa. The purpose of the mission is to repair congenital heart defects in children from across the region and train Ghanaian doctors and nurses how to care for these children on their own.

My job while there was to document the mission through blog posts, photos and videos. This led to stories on Good Morning America and boston.com.

View the video, narrated by surgeon Francis Fynn-Thompson, MD, who is from Ghana and leads the mission.

The mission continues today. You can follow its progress on the Children’s in Ghana blog I started in 2008.
